Genesis Christian Church

Meet the Directors

GINA TILLMAN-YOUNG is the director of Genesis Christian Academy. As a pastor and mother of seven, Rev. Tillman-Young’s personal and pastoral experience confirms that in a Christ-centered environment, all children can exceed their highest expectations of accomplishment, through Christ Jesus who strengthens them (Philip. 4:13). Ordained as a Baptist minister, Rev. Tillman-Young is currently serving her eleventh year as pastor of Genesis Christian Church (GCC). She was the director of the first Genesis Christian Academy established in St. Kitts-Nevis, a tiny federation in the Eastern Caribbean.

It was there that Rev. Tillman-Young first successfully introduced teaching methodologies that were effective in accelerating learning and increasing retention in students of all ages and abilities. Rev. Tillman-Young’s professional history combines over twenty years experience in pastoral and Christian counseling ministry in Boston, Princeton, and Washington DC, as well as proprietorship of several commercial and non-profit enterprises, both in the U.S. and abroad.

In 1981, Rev. Tillman-Young received a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, upon completion of joint studies in law and divinity, in affiliation with Harvard Divinity School. That same year, she was ordained in the Baptist ministry. She completed her undergraduate studies at Hampton University, graduating summa cum laude in 1977.

Rev. Tillman-Young has lived, traveled and studied throughout the world and is multilingual. Rev. Tillman-Young’s diverse background includes theater, painting, culinary arts, and fine arts, all of which she integrates into GCA’s curriculum. Rev. Tillman-Young plays the flute and is an accomplished songwriter and playwright. She has produced and directed several musical dramas for stage and Caribbean television. She is passionately committed to encouraging youth to be Christian non-conformists, transformed by the renewal of their minds (Romans 12:1-2).

Rev. Tillman-Young is married to Edward D. Young, III. They have seven biological children, and are custodians to several additional children from various parts of the world, who live with them on their ranch in Seguin, TX.

EDWARD D. YOUNG, III is Chairman of Genesis Too Foundation, Inc, the 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation that supports Genesis Christian Academy. Genesis Christian Academy is a tuition-free, college preparatory school. He is actively involved in the opening of a new campus of Genesis Christian Academy in Seguin, TX. Mr. Young works with both parents and students. “The most rewarding part of the job is the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others as you also improve their educational situation,” said Young to a recent group of corporate executives.

Before joining the Genesis family, Mr. Young was a senior vice president for Verizon, located in the telecommunications giant’s Washington office. A lawyer by training, he was responsible for all policy matters at the federal level and all relationships with the Federal Communications Commission. He was also responsible for all international regulatory and public policy matters. Mr. Young retired from Verizon in 2004 after a 20-year career with Verizon and Bell Atlantic, Verizon’s predecessor company.

During his career, Mr. Young has been a leader in reforming telecommunications regulation to permit customer choice, and not regulation, to decide how new technologies are introduced. In 1988, he won regulatory approval for Bell Atlantic's Caller ID service - the first in the world. In 1992, he was instrumental in getting the New Jersey legislature to overhaul its telecommunications laws--the first successful regulatory reform effort in New Jersey since 1919. In 1998, he petitioned the FCC to refrain from regulating high-speed data services - the backbone of the Internet. In 2000, he won approval of the Bell Atlantic-GTE merger that created Verizon.

Mr. Young speaks and writes frequently about telecommunications issues and has testified before Congress and state legislatures. He has taught Administrative Law at Seton Hall University School of Law. Also, he is frequently consulted by other countries seeking to change their telecommunications laws and is listed in the International Who's Who of Professionals.

Mr. Young is married to the Rev. Gina Tillman-Young, who is the pastor of Genesis Christian Church and the executive director of Genesis Christian Academy. The Youngs have a total of ten children, five of whom Mr. Young delivered at home. The Youngs reside on a ranch in Seguin, Texas.
