Why is the Genesis Method Successful?

* Small class size makes students accountable for their behavior and academic work at all times.

* Year-round classes--our tri-semester format includes three week breaks at Christmas, the beginning of summer, and the end of summer. This maintains continuity in the learning process. Week-long Thanksgiving breaks allow families to plan vacations, travel, and spend quality time together.

* Longer days, 8 to 5; many students are weekday boarders, . twice a week evening study halls with parents.

* A reality-based curriculum probably provides the greatest incentive for our students to explore new ideas and expand their knowledge base. Sailing, culinary arts, boat restoration, organic farming, navigation, carpentry, video production, an equestrian program, mechanics and a host of other projects provide meaningful frameworks through which science, mathematics, foreign languages, world studies, and the other components of our college preparatory curriculum are taught. Failure to master skills and knowledge has immediate consequences for the success of each learning project. This approach provides a real learning incentive and immediate rewards for achievement. Our teaching methods and environment encourage the development of decision-making skills in our students.

* School is fun! Even though we are structured and disciplined, our teachers are encouraged to make learning fun. Learning through playing games is a prominent part of our curriculum. We give all of our students freedom to develop individual tastes and talents. Our open door policy encourages parents to visit school and attend classes often. Our rules are specific and consistently enforced. All students receive the very highest level of respect at all times, and teachers are very generous with praise and compliments. Accordingly the same level of respect is required of our students, toward, faculty, staff and classmates.

* Creative Arts All Genesis Christian Academy students study fine arts, humanities, etiquette, and music appreciation. In the cafe, students dine with multi-course table settings, serve and wait on tables. The cafe has a performance stage. Students are on stage regularly in musical performance, dance, poetry reading, and drama. Our outreach ministry provides our students with opportunities to perform publicly.

* Jesus Christ is at the center of everything we do. (We call this Christocentric education) The object of every aspect of our education is to encourage our students to lead an examined, Spirit directed Christian life. Our Biblical Studies course provides our students with a solid foundational of the Bible, as well as historical and cultural knowledge of the Bible. Our goal is to enable our students to independently formulate scripturally based values and beliefs, and become comfortable and knowledgeable about their faith. All of our Biblical teachings encourage our students to explore and discover all the creative and professional possibilities for serving as ministers of The Gospel. Of course, Jesus Christ is a part of each of our classes, our music, and even our humor! It’s not unusual to see a student working independently to memorize a chapter of scripture or at the board working a complex math problem mutter “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me!”
